Police have arrested a Dumfries area man who they said stabbed an employee at a Dale City pawn shop Thursday.
Police responded to Pawn City, 4124 Dale Blvd., at 1:16 p.m. Thursday, Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok said.
Initial reports were that a man tried to rob the store, Perok said. Police investigated and believe that Andre Paul Poindexter, a customer at the business, was completing a transation with an employee, a 62-year-old Burke man when Poindexter pulled out a knife and stabbed the employee in the neck, Perok said. The victim fell to the ground and Poindexter climbed over the counter and stabbed him again, police said.
The victim was able to retrieve a firearm and Poindexter ran from the store and left in a car, Perok said. The victim had non life-threatening injuries and was flown to an area hospital as a precaution.
Police quickly identified Poindexter as the suspect and arrested him after a traffic stop in the area of River Ridge Boulevard and Wayside Drive, police said.
Poindexter, 20, of 3011 Desert Palm Court in Dumfries is charged with malicious wounding. He is being held without bond and has a court date on April 23.
