More difficult Standards of Learning tests could mean lower test scores for Virginia students this year, state education officials said.
SOL tests students took this year in reading, writing and science are based on “more rigorous standards” in an effort “to promote college and career readiness,” according to a recent news release from the Virginia Department of Education. And this year for the first time, students took both the short essay and multiple-choice sections of the writing test online, officials said.
