InsideNoVa.com re-launches today with a new owner, but you’ll see many familiar names and features.

Northern Virginia Media Services, owner of Leesburg Today and the Sun Gazette newspapers of Arlington and Fairfax, bought the news website and its social media outlets after World Media Enterprises in November announced the closing of the News & Messenger in Manassas.

The ownership change was effective New Year’s Eve. This afternoon, InsideNoVa.com and its mobile site will be back online. Northern Virginia Media Services is also launching a new weekly newspaper, Prince William Today, on Jan. 10.

The ownership may be new, but the people behind InsideNoVa and Prince William Today have been part of the community for a long time.

Bruce Potter, regional vice president of Northern Virginia Media Services, was the publisher of InsideNoVa.com and the News & Messenger from 2007 to 2011.

Kari Pugh, editor of the paper and website, was editor of InsideNoVa.com under World Media until mid-November.

Longtime News & Messenger sports editor David Fawcett is now sports editor for Prince William Today. And N&M staff writer Amanda Stewart is now a reporter for the new venture.

Contributing writers and photographers include former N&M staffers Aileen Streng, Kipp Hanley, Keith Walker and Jeff Mankie.

InsideNoVa.com’s logo and color scheme may change in the next few weeks, but our commitment to good writing and photography, breaking news and in-depth news and sports coverage in Prince William County and beyond will continue.

We will still keep up the daily events calendar online, some of the columnists you read each week and our focus on local-only news.

“Prince William and Manassas residents deserve to have a local newspaper and independent website reporting on community news and events,” Potter said.  “We’re delighted to be able to fill that need and look forward to becoming a part of the community and providing the kind of quality local journalism that its citizens deserve.”

Northern Virginia Media Services owns and operates weekly newspapers and websites in Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington counties. With the addition of Prince William Today, Northern Virginia Media Services’ newspapers will reach almost 200,000 homes a week in Northern Virginia and its websites should draw hundreds of thousands of unique visitors a month.

What happened to the Android app for smartphones? Still have it, but since Northern Virginia Media Services took over, I only receive headlines and first paragraph of stories posted --no links to insidenova or full articles. Just a little frustrating...
