The woman involved in the Dec. 31 crash that killed Prince William police Officer Chris Yung faces a July trial for reckless driving.
A grand jury in Prince William Circuit Court indicted Margaret Luecke, 69, of Gainesville, on the charge on Feb. 4, court records show.
A two-day jury trial is set to begin July 15.
“I feel this case rises to reckless driving,” Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney Paul Ebert said.
Ebert said Luecke has no prior traffic charges on her record.
Police said their preliminary investigation found that Luecke, driving a minivan, was making a left turn from northbound Va. 28 near Piper Lane, into the Super Target shopping center about 2 p.m. on Dec. 31 when she crossed in front of Yung, a motorcycle officer who was driving south on Nokesville Road and was responding to a report of another crash at the time. He had his lights and siren activated, police said.
Ebert wouldn't say what caused Luecke to pull out in front of Yung's motorcycle.
