Police say a 17-year-old Osbourn Park High School student was killed in Thursday morning’s single-vehicle wreck on Lake Jackson Drive.

Michael Murphy Schmelzinger, a junior, lost control of his 2008 Ford Mustang as he traveled south about 11:05 a.m. and slammed into a tree , said Prince William police spokesman Jonathan Perok.

    I just have to say, as a mom of a 22 year old son, My thoughts and prayers to the mom and dad of this young man. Please be careful around the shrine where this happend. The drivers can not see anything until right on the spot because of the hairpin turn. We just can not suffer another devasting tragity.

    sooo sad... for all the kids my daughter went to school with him... please always remember to be aware and careful when driving its ok to be late we only need you to make it there safely!
