What’s going on behind that mysterious black, shrouded storefront next to the Starbucks in Potomac Town Center?
Construction of a new Apple store.
A project manager taking a coffee break outside Friday said the new Apple retail store is set to open in September.
Apple has yet to confirm it’s even building a store at Potomac Town Center in Woodbridge. But that’s not unusual.
Whether it’s to add to the mystique or keep proprietary information private, all Apple retail stores are built behind a cloak of mystery.
The store in Potomac Town Center is surrounded by construction fencing. A black wall is built over the store front. It has a locked black door in the front and shrouds of vinyl sheeting over the front.
On some of the tech giant’s other store construction sites, the black wall goes up and doesn’t even have a door, the contractor said.
Rumors of an Apple store coming to Potomac Town Center heated up last month when Apple posted that its retail division was hiring in Manassas. Several industry websites reported the store would actually be at Potomac Town Center, but Apple wouldn’t comment.
Neither would Roadside Development, the builder behind Potomac Town Center.
While Apple contractors work behind a wall of secrecy, another mystery of Potomac Town Center remains – the opening date of Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar and Grill. The long-awaited eatery was originally set to open this March, but now there’s no set opening date and no work going on inside.
A peek through the windows revealed boxes and construction materials piled on the floor, but no one working. There’s a Prince William liquor license taped to the front door, and a sign that reads “Coming soon.”
