Forest Park graduate Ali Krieger, one of 23 players selected to represent the United States’ women’s national soccer team at the 2015 FIFA World Cup, helped stomp Japan Sunday night.
Krieger is one of eight defenders on the roster.
The Forest Park High School graduate was the starting right outside defender for all six of the U.S’s games at the 2011 World Cup and was one of four players to play in every minute. The Americans finished second.
Sunday’s win against Japan was the U.S. team’s third world title, and the first since 1999.
After debuting with the U.S. National Team in January of 2008, the 30-year-old Krieger has been a regular since 2010. She’s played in six of the U.S.’s seven matches in 2015 with five starts.
She started three games, including the final, in helping the U.S. win the Algarve Cup with a 2-0 victory over France in March.
