You’ll have a better chance of living a long life in Loudoun, Fairfax and Arlington counties than anywhere else in Virginia. That is according to the latest annual rankings of county and city health outcomes by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

The rankings are an effort “to mobilize local communities, national partners, and leaders across multiple sectors to improve health and increase health equity,” according to a release from the foundation and its study partner, the University of Wisconsin Population Health Institute.

Falls Church was ranked 6th and Stafford was ranked 8th in the state. Prince William County, Manassas Park City and Fairfax City were in the top 15. The City of Manassas was at 28.

To determine rankings, researchers looked at quality of life, including self-reported claims of poor health on state-based surveys and reports of low birthweight to a national registry. The rankings also use data on premature deaths — the rate of deaths prior to age 75.

With this week’s release, study authors raised concerns about an increasing number of premature deaths, particularly drug-related deaths of individuals aged 15-44 and deaths tied to car wrecks and gun-related deaths of those aged 15-24.

Here are the overall top-performing counties and cities in Virginia, based on health outcomes. Click on the name for more info. And see complete state rankings at countyhealthrankings.org.

AND if you are a SNOWFLAKE you stand 100% chance of a viral video of your food, dog or cat being shown on national news, because it is so cute....and it needs to be shown to everyone.
