dulles greenway

Loudoun lawmakers on Tuesday announced negotiations for distance-based pricing on the Dulles Greenway, a move they say will reduce costs for commuters and increase mobility through the area.

State delegates David Reid and John Bell, along with Loudoun Board of Supervisors Chair Phyllis Randall, said the distance-based price of $1 per mile would be in effect during off-peak hours, meaning 21 hours per day during the week, and would not exceed the current maximum off-peak toll, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reported.

The Virginia General Assembly will have to approve deal during its 2019 session and Greenway owner, Toll Road Investors Partnership II, would need to invest about $30 million to create the new infrastructure.

Trips along the entire Greenway from Leesburg to Va. 28 currently cost $6.65 at peak hours and $5.65 off-peak, the Loudoun Times-Mirror reports.
