Alexandria man wins $5M on ‘extra’ lottery ticket

An Alexandria man didn’t win the big Powerball drawing March 27, but he still walked away a millionaire.

Kifle Soloman bought his Powerball ticket for the $750 million drawing, and he decided to spend the extra cash on a 50X The Money scratch-off ticket, according to a Virginia Lottery news release.

His scratcher won the top prize: $5 million.

“I couldn’t believe my eyes!” Soloman told lottery officials.

He bought his winning ticket at Safeway, 5980 Kingstowne Blvd., Alexandria.

50X The Money features prizes start at $20. This is the second $5 million top prize claimed, which leaves one more unclaimed, lottery officials said.

The odds of winning the $5 million prize are 1 in 1,876,800, and the odds of winning any prize in this game are 1 in 3.07.
