Charles Meng

Charles Meng heads the Arlington Food Assistance Center.

The Shirlington Employment and Education Center will celebrate its 16th anniversary and bestow its annual Emily DiCicco Humanitarian Awards during a celebration slated for Thursday, Sept. 29 from 6 to 8 p.m. at a private residence in Arlington.

Recipients of the 2016 awards include Charles Meng, executive director of the Arlington Food Assistance Center, and three religious organizations: Arlington First Church of the Nazarene, Church of the Covenant and The Thai Church of Washington, D.C.

The award is named in honor of a late SEEC board member who long was active in human-rights issues across the local community.

Funds raised from the celebration will support the SEEC Green Housekeeping training program for immigrant women and the Paralegal Project, which helps day-laborers collect unpaid wages from unscrupulous employers.

Tickets are $25 per person, with sponsorshop packages available. To R.S.V.P., e-mail Shirley Ruhe at slrbc@aol.com. For information, see the Web site at www.seecjobs.org.
