The Arlington County government will apply for $840,000 in federal transportation funding for three improvement projects.

The funding would come from the federal government’s MAP-21 Transportation Altneratives Program, administered by the Virginia Department of Transportation and the regional Transportation Planning Board.

Projects for which funding is being sought:

• $440,000 for bicycle and pedestrian improvements in the vicinity of McKinley Elementary School.

• $200,000 to improve accessibility of streets and sidewalks throughout the Rosslyn-Ballston corridor, to comply with federal Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.

• $200,000 to support expansion of the Capital Bikeshare initiative.

Under the program, localities must provide a 20-percent match to the federal funds.
