Nancy Van Doren discusses long-term planning

Arlington School Board member Nancy Van Doren explains how proposed high-school boundary adjustments fit into the growth plan for the school system during remarks at the Nov. 3, 2016, School Board meeting.

Arlington school officials may be looking in every nook and cranny for space to build on. But some parcels just don’t make the cut.

School Board members have decided to deed 4.75 acres of land at Taylor Elementary School over to the county government, which will use it to expand the adjacent Zachary Taylor Park.

According to school-system staff, who are taking the proposal to the School Board on May 18, the site “is steeply sloped and forested,” making it unsuitable for new construction of athletic fields.
