Arlington arts advocates will have the chance to quiz County Board candidates John Vihstadt and Matt de Ferranti during a forum slated for Monday, Aug. 13 at 6:45 p.m. at the studios of Arlington Independent Media.

The forum is sponsored by Embracing Arlington Arts, and comes on the heels of a consultant’s report finding that Arlington arts entities employ 6,124 people in 658 arts-related businesses.

“We wanted to hear from each candidate his plans about how to keep this industry strong and growing if elected to the County Board,” said Janet Kopenhaver, who heads Embracing Arlington Arts.

According to a separate economic study, more than $18 million of economic activity in Arlington is derived from audience expenditures associated with arts events, including eating at restaurants, parking, ticket sales and other purchases made during their night out.

“These industries economically contribute so much to our county,” Kopenhaver said.

After offering remarks, candidates will take questions from the audience.

Arlington Independent Media is located at 2701 Wilson Blvd. For information on the forum, see the Web site at
