Concept design for Lubber Run Community Center

Arlington County Board members on Sept. 16, 2017, approved a concept design for the new Lubber Run Community Center.

Arlington County Board members on Sept. 22 agreed to add about $1.4 million to the budget for rebuilding Lubber Run Community Center, which will push the construction cost to $41.14 million and the management fees to $4.11 million.

The additional funding will allow for traffic improvements at the intersection of Park Drive and North George Mason Drive; to add a walking track to the gymnasium; and to have the building’s roof prepped for a potential later addition of solar panels.

When originally proposed in the county government’s fiscal 2013-22 capital-improvement plan, the project had been budgeted at $28 million. Counting the new additions, the total project budget has increased to just over $49 million, funded by park bonds and other sources.
