Arlington candidates Tafti, Stamos

Parisa Tafti, left, challenged incumbent Arlington commonwealth’s attorney Theo Stamos in the June 11 primary.

The political-action committee of the Arlington Education Association has endorsed Parisa Tafti in her bid to unseat Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos in the June 11 Democratic primary.

“AEA believes that Parisa’s deep commitment to social justice, together with her restorative-justice approach to law enforcement, is just what Arlington Public Schools needs to create a safe, healthy environment in which students and staff can thrive,” the organization said in announcing its endorsement.

In Virginia, state law bans collective bargaining or striking by public-sector employees, so unions function more as professional organizations.
