Charles Hernick speaks to GOP convention

Charles Hernick, the Republican nominee in the 8th District congressional race, speaks at the GOP district convention on May 7, 2016.

Republican congressional candidate Charles Hernick wants likely GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump to tone down rhetoric on followers of Islam.

“My Muslim friends love peace, and I am proud to stand with them,” Hernick said in a statement. “Unfortunately, Donald Trump’s divisive rhetoric won’t help us unite with peace-loving Muslims against our common enemy. We need to stand together against hatred, violence and terrorism.”

Hernick in May won the Republican nomination to take on U.S. Rep. Don Beyer (D-8th) in a district that is prohibitively Democratic.
