The Arlington League of Women Voters recently received the Strengthening Democracy Award at the League of Women Voters of the U.S.’s national convention, held in the District of Columbia.
The innovative partnership between the League of Women Voters, Arlington Public Schools and Inspire Virginia reached out to local students of voting age, encouraging them to register to vote and then cast ballots in Virginia’s presidential primaries in March.
Through the initiative, more than 300 Arlington students were registered to vote.
The effort was organized by League of Women Voters president Kristin Goss, assisted by Kathy Matusiak and Don Gurney; Alex Chandler of Inspire Virginia; and Cathy Hix, Arlington Public Schools’ social-studies supervisor.
