Six officers have been placed on routine administrative leave after a man died following a medical emergency while they were taking him into custody Tuesday evening, according to Fairfax County police.
The officers responded to the 4300 block of Mission Court regarding a domestic dispute around 4:35 p.m. Tuesday.
A 31-year-old man was reportedly acting irrationally and allegedly struck a family member in the head, according to a police statement.
When officers arrived on scene, they found the family member outside the house. The man was inside the house, naked, and possibly experiencing a mental health crisis, police said.
"When officers went to take the man into custody to prevent him from harming himself or others, he resisted and ignored commands," according to the police statement. "As officers were working to gain control, the man became unresponsive."
Medics were on scene and immediately began CPR and the man was transported to an area hospital where he died.
