A 23-year-old Alexandria man has been indicted on murder and firearm charges in the shooting death of a Woodbridge man in March.

On May 6, a Prince William County grand jury returned multiple indictments against Markus Sean-Thurman Dean, who previously arrested in connection with the death Daniel James Gilliam on March 3.

Police were called to investigate the shooting at 12:39 a.m. and arrived to find Gilliam suffering a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Officers performed CPR and Gilliam was taken to a nearby hospital, where he died later Sunday morning, said Prince William County police spokeswoman Renee Carr.

Police say the victim and suspect were arguing in a parking lot when "a firearm was brandished and the victim was shot."

The suspect fled the area on foot while uninvolved residents aided to victim, Carr said.

Officers were also able to obtain suspect information from witnesses and found the suspect a short time later, she said.

Markus Dean was originally charged with aggravated malicious wounding and jailed without bond.

Carr said the suspect and victim appeared to be acquaintances.

The case was Prince William County's first homicide of 2019.
