A man was shot by a resident when he tried to break into a home late Wednesday, according to the Fauquier County Sheriff’s Office.
Matthew Darolyn Hawkes, 39, of Marshall, is charged with burglary at night while armed, conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit abduction and wearing a mask in public. Hawkes is currently in law enforcement custody receiving medical treatment, a FCSO release noted.
Hawkes allegedly kicked in the door of a home in the 4900 block of Old Tavern Road around 10:24 p.m. A person in the home fired several gunshots at the man and he fled the area on foot.
Deputies found Hawkes in a ditch line on Old Tavern Road with a gunshot wound to the leg. He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
A second man George Cornelius Grant, 39, of Marshall, is charged with conspiracy to commit burglary, conspiracy to commit abduction and violation of a protective order. He is being held without bond at the Fauquier County Adult Detention Center.
