Fairfax County Public Schools has earned “Platinum” status in the Virginia School Board Association’s “Green Schools Challenge” for 2019.

Fairfax was among 11 school districts statewide, including neighboring Arlington and Prince William, to win the designation.

The friendly competition is designed to encourage school systems to implement specific environmental actions to reduce carbon emissions.

Arlington Public Schools, King & Queen County Public Schools and Isle of Wight Public Schools were rated tops in their respective student-population categories.
