The McLean Citizens Association’s board of directors on June 5 approved a resolution in support of Trinity United Methodist Church’s request that Fairfax County increase enrollment the church’s nursery and lengthen that facility’s operating hours.
The church, located on 7.3 acres at 1205 Dolley Madison Blvd., opened in McLean in 1955 and began operating a preschool in 1987. The preschool currently is open from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on weekdays.
Church leaders now have applied to Fairfax County to increase the preschool’s maximum enrollment from 50 to 99 and extend the operating hours to between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
The MCA board supported the church’s application, but its resolution also urged the Virginia Department of Transportation to monitor traffic at the nearby intersection of Dolley Madison Boulevard and Buchanan Street to see if increased traffic attributable to expansion of the church’s child-care programs would necessitate installation of a traffic light.
According to a special-permit amendment approved by the county in 2006, the church must contribute $30,000 toward the design and installation of a traffic light there if VDOT decides one is warranted
