Arlington voters can go to the polls from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and cast ballots in the Democratic primary.
All Arlington registered voters can take part in the most contentious race on the ballot – the battle between incumbent Commonwealth’s Attorney Theo Stamos and challenger Parisa Tafti.
Depending on where they live, Arlington residents also may be able to cast ballots in two legislative races:
• In the 31st state Senate District, incumbent Barbara Favola is being challenged by Nicole Merlene.
• In the 49th House of Delegates district, incumbent Alfonso Lopez is being challenged by Julius Spain Sr.
(The Sun Gazette has endorsed Stamos, Favola and Lopez in their respective races.)
Virginia does not register voters by political party, so any registered voter can participate in the primary. In Arlington, no Republican primary is being held.
Tonight at 7 p.m. is the deadline for independent candidates to file to be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
