An explosion at a business on Innovation Drive near George Mason University’s campus in Manassas shook the area late Monday morning.

The Manassas Volunteer Fire Company reported a hydrogen tank at 9441 Innovation Drive around 11:30 a.m. The address is that of Utron, a defense contractor that makes high-velocity weapon launchers for the military.

Prince William fire and rescue Battalion Chief Curtis Brodie said there was on injury reported so far. He did not know the person's condition.

Witnesses said there appears to be significant damage to the building. Co-workers at a nearby building reported hearing and feeling an explosion, and seeing something fly up in the air and come back down.

Innovation Drive was closed for about an hour but reopened around 12:30 p.m.

Prince William school officials said students who attend @Innovation Park on the campus of George Mason were unaffected. Students had left early today to return to their home schools.

I wired that place five years ago. I dont recall installing any explosion proof (class 1 division 1) electrical systems. A gas leak and someone turned on a light switch with a spark and KBOOM!
