Manassas Park announces new police chief

On Tuesday, April 23, Manassas Park Mayor Jeanette Rishell and city council members voted unanimously to appoint Captain Mario Lugo as the city’s new chief of police.

Lugo began his career with Manassas Park in 2000 after serving two years with the Arlington County Sheriff’s Office.

During his 19-year tenure with the Manassas Park Police Department, Lugo has served in various roles, including uniform patrol, investigations, K9, and supervision, according to a news release. He was formerly assistant chief in charge of professional standards.

Lugo is a graduate of both the FBI National Academy and the Virginia Association of Chiefs of Police’s Professional Executive Leadership School.

He is a graduate of Manassas Park High School.
