The Potomac Mills sign leaning from wind damage March 2, 2018. The sign was pulled down over safety concerns March 4, 2018.

The large Potomac Mills sign damaged in the wind on Friday has been removed.

Closed since rush hour Friday, southbound Interstate 95 is expected to reopen Sunday night, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Crews had been prepared to remove the leaning 180-foot sign since early Saturday, but strong winds kept them from assembling cranes to bring the sign down.

Traffic was directed onto the 95 Express Lanes while the main lanes were closed. VDOT said the Express Lanes would be available for northbound commuters Monday morning.
