American Legion Post 364 is expanding its location with the addition of 8,900-square-foot structure to the existing 5,300-square-foot home.

While the official opening is not until after Veterans Day, members will get a chance to start using the facility at a soft opening Sept. 13.

The new social hall features one wall of windows that provide a view of the trees and bushes on the 27-acre property.

The hall has a stage and room for 26 four-chair tables. Nearby is a horseshoe bar that accommodates 48 stools for patrons. Off the main hall is a game room with dart boards and electronic games. Along with a pool table, there will be 14 television screens on the walls.

On the culinary side of the facility, a range and grills are installed, and so is a walk-in refrigerator and freezer. All major kitchen appliances and HVAC will use natural gas.

The Post addition has been a long time coming, dating to July 13, 2016, when the New Building Construction Kickoff Meeting started the ball rolling. Construction started in August of 2016.

Building and permitting problems extended the expected opening date, but an occupancy permit was issued Sept. 14. The addition has cost the Post about $3.2 million.

The first official use of the new facility was for a POW/MIA ceremony on Sept. 21.

Bingo is still held in the current hall on Sundays at 2 p.m. and Mondays at 7:15 p.m. and is open to the public. The new building will be for members of American Legion Post 364 and invited guests only.

The grand opening of the new Post will be from 7:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 9. It is located at 3640 Friendly Post Lane, Woodbridge, VA 22192.
