HBC Group at Keller Williams Realty McLean was busting with ruby-red celebration as partners Karen Briscoe and Lizzy Conroy rang in a milestone anniversary during a celebration held Oct. 3 at Washington Golf & Country Club.
The evening – which brought out past and present clients, vendors, friends and supporters – was dedicated to the memory of the late Sue Huckaby and her now 40-year-old legacy, the HBC Group.
Huckaby began her career as a Realtor in McLean in 1977 and became one of the most successful across the U.S.. Nationally in 2002, Sue was ranked as the No. 2 Realtor out of more than two million Realtors in the nation, and for many years was the top Realtor in Northern Virginia.
“Sue was a ‘people’ person, she loved her work, and everyone enjoyed working with her,” Brisco and Conroy noted.
Sue’s husband, Jerry Huckaby – a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Louisiana – worked full-time with his wife from 1993-2008. They met Karen Briscoe at Trinity United Methodist Church, and in 2006 asked Karen to become a partner.
After Sue Huckaby lost a battle with cancer in September 2008, Briscoe resolved to carry on her legacy. Conroy joined the team as a partner in 2009.
Jerry Huckaby, Briscoe and Conroy gathered with past and present clients to lift a toast to the legacy Sue started back in 1977. It was a celebration event for all attending.
Included in the distinguished list of guests were Jerry Huckaby and his wife, Marie, from Louisiana; sponsors of the Community Charity Champions that Karen and Lizzy founded in 2012 to support the local community in McLean and surrounding areas; and past and present clients who initially supported Sue and now the HBC Group through the years.
“We are delighted that so many have joined the celebration of 40 years and Sue’s memory. HBC Group continues her legacy to impact and improve people’s lives,” Briscoe said.
“I am fortunate to be a part of a remarkable team,” added Conroy. “Celebrating a 40-year legacy of serving clients with their real estate needs signifies a great milestone in the growth and longevity of the HBC Group.”
