The Virginia Department of Transportation, Prince William County and the Town of Haymarket will celebrate the completion of Northern Virginia’s first diverging diamond interchange Aug. 22 at 10:30 a.m.

The diverging diamond interchange has been constructed at Interstate 66 and U.S. 15 to relieve congestion, enhance public safety, operations and capacity, and to accommodate forecasted traffic in the area, according to VDOT.

The event will take place at the northwest corner of the intersection of U.S. 15 and U.S. 55. Attendees should park at Starbucks within Haymarket Village Center, located at 6422 Trading Square in Haymarket.

The project includes the construction of two longer bridges to carry U.S. 15 over I-66; improvements on U.S. 15 from just north of the railroad tracks to just south of Heathcote Boulevard; wider intersections on U.S. 15 at Heathcote Boulevard and Route 55; and a 10-foot-wide shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.
