An Arlington Senior Babe Ruth 14-under travel all-star B baseball team played up one age group and enjoyed big success by winning the District 6 tournament with a 3-0 record.
Arlington nipped Springfield, 7-6, in its first game, routed Vienna, 19-7, in its second, then downed Springfield again, 14-3, in the title contest.
“We played well over the three games, with a lot of players leading the way,” Arlington manager Cory Allgood said.
Wyatt Croog went 3 for 4 in the first game, with Mack Kiatrungrit and Evan Leese (four strikeouts) doing the pitching.
Against Vienna, Will Thomas was 2 for 3 and scored three runs. Arlington stole 18 bases. Keegan McGraw and Thomas each swiping four and Alexander Gil three.
Evan Smith struck out five in five innings on the mound.
In the championship showdown, Hans Erik Sandberg went 2 for 3 with four RBI. Arlington stole 11 bases, with Kiatrungrit stealing four. Kiatrungrit fanned five in five innings on the mound.
In the outfield, Jake Guffey led the defense with many good catches.
Other players for Arlington were Colin Berry, Evan Leese, Nathan Luca, Alan Schneider, Evan Smith, Ben Stern and Tyler Woodward.
Will Stengle was the assistant coach.
“We played in the 15-under district tournament to test our ability ,and we succeeded,” Allgood said.
