Madison High School's girls soccer team scored the game's lone goal in the 78th minute Thursday to beat three-time defending 6A champion Battlefield 1-0 in the regional quarterfinals. The game was played at Patriot High School to take advantage of its turf field.

Junior forward Rachel Jackson scored the game-winner for Madison (14-2).

Battlefield was a No. 1 seed in regionals; Madison a No. 2 seed.

The loss was Battlefield's first this season and snapped its 25-game winning streak. Battlefield finishes 19-1. Madison also beat the Bobcats last season 1-0 in the regular season. It was one of Battlefield's two losses in a 21-2-1 campaign.

The Bobcats entered the season as only the fourth girls soccer team in state history to win three or more consecutive state titles, alongside George Mason, Broad Run and West Springfield.

The Bobcats also entered the game having won six straight regional titles.
