A couple of long second-half scoring plays, one on defense and the other on offense, broke open a one-point game and helped the Westfield Bulldogs to a 31-13 road victory over the Madison Warhawks in a 6A North Region Tournament semifinal football playoff game Nov. 26 in Vienna.
At last, 16 years after one school opened and decades after the other began classes, the Madison Warhawks and Westfield Bulldogs will meet in a high school football game for the first time.Â
Rob Hahne, a Langley High School graduate who has been involved in many aspects of baseball in Northern Virginia for many years, was named the new head varsity baseball coach at Westfield High School on Monday.
At least for now, Chuck Welch thinks 30 years as a high school head baseball is a good stopping point.

The Robinson Rams (11-3, 2-0) and Chantilly Chargers (12-1, 2-0) remained tied for first place in the Concorde District with victories last night in boys high school basketball action.
With a 67-53 Concorde District road victory over the Westfield Bulldogs on Jan. 4, the Chantilly Chargers continue to own the best overall record, at 11-1, of any Northern Region boys high school basketball team so far this season.
