Yorktown runner Shuttleworth

Yorktown's Reece Shuttleworth tied for first in the boys 1,600 meters at 6D North Region track and field meet.

Led by some individual winners, including a rare tie for first, the Washington-Lee Generals and Yorktown Patriots each finished third in the girls and boys 6D North Region track and field high-school championship.

The tie came in the boys 1,600-meters, where Yorktown’s Reece Shuttleworth and Albert Velikonja tied for first in 4:18.86.

Yorktown’s other individual winner was Bowen Shuttleworth in the 800 (1:55.09).

The Shuttleworth brothers, along with Velikonja and George Karamitsos, teamed to win the boys 4x800 relay in 7:55.45.

Yorktown’s Max Patterson was second in the high jump, John Vartanian took fourth in the shot put, Mikhail Barrett was fifth in the high jump and the 4x400 relay was fourth.

For the W-L girls, Eva Arnade won the 3,200-meters in 11:08.58 and finished sixth in the 1,600, and Yasmeen Tinsley won the 110 hurdles (15:07), was second in the 300 hurdles and took a sixth in the high jump.

Giulia Mesa was second in the triple jump and 110 hurdles and fourth in the long jump; Ally Obenberger was eighth in the 1,600 and the 4x100 relay was fourth.

For the Yorktown girls, Anna Macon Corcoran won the 800 in 2:14.87.

For the 10th-place Washington-Lee boys, Liam McBride was second in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300 hurdles, Charles Male was fourth in the long jump and seventh in the high jump; Jonny Jackson was fifth in the 3,200 and Phillip Ray fifth in the triple jump.

n The Wakefield Warriors finished second in the boys outdoor 5C North Region Track & Field Championships with 62.5 points, well behind winner John Champe with 154.5.

Leading the Wakefield boys was a second place by busy Josh Sutton in the 110-meter hurdles, a second in the high jump, a second in the shot put, a third in the 300 hurdles and an eighth in the long jump.

Lincoln Calfee was fourth in the 100 dash and ran on Wakefield’s second-place 4x100 relay along with Damon Harari, Isaiah Mefford and Jean Lasanta Pena.

Mefford was fifth in the 100. Harari was fourth in the 400 and seventh in the 200. Lukai Hatcher was sixth in the long jump and the 4x400 relay was fifth.

In the girls region meet for Wakefield, Faith Achugamonu won the shot put with a throw of 32-feet, 1/2-inch. Chelsa Figano was second in the 200 and fifth in the 100, and Brianna Breyault was fifth in the 3,200.
