The 14-under Arlington Impact Elite ’04 finished 7-0 playing in the older 16-under girls softball division to win the Rock ‘N Rumble Tournament in Maryland.
Abby Kohan pitched in six of the wins, allowing only five earned runs, striking out 27.
In the championship game, Emily Reagan delivered a game-winning walk-off single scoring Ryan Shannon, who had singled to lead off the inning, for a 5-4 victory over a Churchville Lightning team that had won 23 consecutive games.
Reagan and Molly Kaufman both hit better than .500 for the tournament and drove in a combined 15 runs. Kohan, Kara Bremser, Livy Fried and Sasa Groome also delivered clutch hits and drove in six runs each. Kat Lentz batted higher than .400 at leadoff, led the team in runs scored and caught all four elimination games.
Defensively, the Impact turned six double plays and had strong outfield play, with Megan McMaster, Shannon and Groome making diving catches and Bremser and Kaufman playing flawless defense in the infield.
The prior weekend, the Impact went 7-1 and was the top seed out of 48 teams in the Memorial Day Madness. The team also won the NSA fall championships in November, led by Torrie McNabb’s pitching and Lindcy Nelson’s strong hitting.
The Impact is coached by Doug Kaufman and Dave Kohan.
