Battlefield High School senior left-hander Nick Wells tossed his sixth complete game of the season Friday as the Bobcats blanked visiting South County 4-0 in a 6A North Region Tournament first-round game.
Wells (7-1) struck out 14, while allowing two walks and four hits.
Offensively, Josh Flaherty went 2 for 3 with two RBI, Steve Kraft was 2 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Jett Manning was 1 for 3 with an RBI and a run scored, Nick Feight was 1 for 3 with a double and Sam Harris was 1 for 2 with a run scored.
Battlefield (16-4) hosts McLean Monday in the regional second round at 7 p.m.
WOODBRIDGE 2, COLONIAL FORGE 1: Following a 0-0 first half, the Vikings got goals from Jewel Christian and Hanna Hannesdottir to win Friday’s Conference 4 Tournament semifinal.
Annie Boros got an assist as the Vikings (11-4) advance to Saturday’s 1 p.m. conference final at top-seeded Forest Park.
Chenelle Evans was in goal for Woodbridge.
Karlie Kellstrom, Stacey McGaughey, Kaycee Pickard and Madison Morningstar turned in a tremendous defensive effort.
FOREST PARK 4, STAFFORD 1: After a scoreless first half, the Bruins (13-3 overall) came out more aggressive in the midfield during the second half of Friday’s Conference 4 Tournament semifinal.
Jamie Geraghty scored two goals and had an assist. Jessica Leonard and Caitlyn Flores scored goals and Ashley Skertic had two assists. The defense was led by Alyssa Tallent, Elle Mastro and Sarah Gleason. Ashley Major had three saves to earn the win.
STONE BRIDGE 5, J.E.B STUART 0: In a 5A North Region Tournament first round game, sophomore Lindsay Gallagher put the Bulldogs on the board two minutes into the game after she redirected a cross from sophomore Briana Alston.
Ten minutes later, junior Carissa Showalter shot the ball and it was deflected away from the goal; however, junior Hayley Berry was there to put it in the back of the net. The Bulldogs scored one more time before the end of the half.
Senior Nieko Ridley passed the ball to freshman Emily Fox who sent the ball past the Raiders’ keeper. Starting off the second half, Gallagher dribbled through some of the opposing defenders and scored her second goal of the night.
Then with seconds remaining in the game, Fox shot a penalty kick that deflected off the goal post towards Ridley who was able to put the ball in the net for the final goal of the night. Junior Hailey Corpe had 10 saves on the night.
With the win, Stone Bridge improves to 14-3-1 on the season and will travel on Monday night to Stafford to take on Mountain View in the regional quarterfinals.
FOREST PARK 1 HYLTON 0: In Friday’s Conference 4 Tournament semifinal, Evie Raley scored the only run of the game with a first-inning home run.
Jessica Middleton pitched a two-hit shutout with six strikeouts.
Mia Lacy had 15 strikeouts for Hylton.
The Bruins (12-3) host Woodbridge Saturday at 1 p.m. for the tournament title.
