Steve Smith and Paul Dow

Paul Dow was the only person on site who knew CPR last summer when his youth baseball teammate was struck by a baseball and needed the life-saving technique.

In response to that incident, the Greater Manassas Baseball League will offer a CPR training session to its members this Sunday at the Manassas Volunteer Fire Station.

The training is not mandatory, but coaches and board members are encouraged to attend. The Manassas Volunteer Rescue Squad will hold the training at the Manassas Volunteer Fire Station from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On July 14, Steve Smith, a 2016 Seton High School graduate, was struck accidentally by a baseball in the heart on his left side just below his arm pit during a practice with his Manassas Blue and Gray team.

Dow kept Smith alive until paramedics arrived
