Alabama is the latest Division I football program to offer Stonewall Jackson High School freshman Shawn Murphy. The Crimson Tide offered the inside linebacker Monday morning.
In 12 seasons under head coach Nick Saban, Alabama has won five national titles.
Murphy also has picked up offers from Kentucky (who also offered Monday) Michigan, Ohio State, Tennessee, Florida, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Pitt and Penn State. Ohio State offered him Friday, while Michigan offered Wednesday (April 24).
In October, Virginia was the first school to offer Murphy. He was the only freshman to start on varsity for the Raiders last fall.
Murphy was a first-team all-Cedar Run District and second-team all-Region D linebacker in 2018. He totaled 85 tackles, five sacks and 29 tackles for loss.
Fellow linebacker Tyleik Williams also is attracting plenty of Division I interest. The sophomore has been offered by Kentucky (Monday), Pitt, Florida, Penn State, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Michigan and North Carolina.
Williams was the Cedar Run District Defensive Player of the Year in 2018 and first-team all-region. He totaled 65 tackles, 15 sacks and 23 tackles for loss.
