Battlefield High School graduate Jake Agnos entered the East Carolina and American Athletic Conference record book Thursday night for single-season strikeouts.
The junior left-hander struck out 10 over five innings in No. 6 ECU’s 19-10 win over visiting Memphis to give him 124 for the season. The old school mark was set by Larry Clayton in 1961. The old league record was set by Louisville’s Kyle Funkhouser in 2014.
Agnos picked up the win to improve to 9-2 and extend his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 30 innings.
Agnos is also one of 15 pitchers named as a semifinalist for the College Baseball Foundation’s Pitcher of the Year award. Agnos has named to the Google Cloud CoSIDA Academic All-District 3 First-Team as well.
Agnos, a management information systems major, is a seven-time ECU Director of Athletics Honor Roll member, two-time American Athletic Conference All-Academic selection (2017-18) and two-time Google Cloud Academic All-District honoree (2018-19). He has a 3.96 cumulative grade point average.
