I cringe every time I see these young athletes wearing masks while playing intense, high oxygen-requiring sports. The schools are contradicting competent medical advice and are ignoring the best interest of the kids. Wearing masks is not a good thing when exercising or playing high-intensity sports since they reduce the ability to breathe comfortably and allow less oxygen to the brain while increasing the rebreathing of carbon dioxide. Additionally, sweat makes the mask wet quickly which makes it even more difficult to breathe and promotes the growth of microorganisms. Come on . . . figure it out before real damage is done to the kids!
