The Woodbridge High School wrestling team won the 2018 Appalachian Duals Dec. 22, 2018

The Woodbridge Senior High School Viking’s wrestling team continued their winning ways with a dominating performance at the 2018 Appalachian Duals this past weekend.

They won six duals to capture the tournament championship against stout competition in the sixteen-team field. They beat the Virginia Bandits 66-6, Nottoway 71-6, Kettle Run 51-18, Rock Ridge 63-17, Amherst County 58-18, and in the championship round they topped Skyline 45-31.

The official scoring wrestlers results are below:

106 lb. results - Brian Nguyen went 6-0

113 lb. results - Samuel Congleton went 4-1

120 lb. results - Christopher Nguyen went 6-0

126 lb. results - Yousuf Hammad went 5-0

132 lb. results - John Adkinson went 4-1

138 lb. results - Fahad Abdulrazzaq went 3-3

145 lb. results – Peter Sepulveda went 6-0

152 lb. results – Mitchell Gelband went 5-1

160 lb. results – Joel Diaz went 5-1

170 lb. results - Elijah Jones went 3-3

182 lb. results - James Fluet went 3-2

182 lb. results – Zabdiel Echie, went 0-1

195 lb. results - Bryan Rios went 3-2

195 lb. results - Joshua Ramirez of Woodbridge went 0-1

220 lb. results - Nico Effa-Mboul of Woodbridge went 4-2

285 lb. results - Seth Ellsmore of Woodbridge went 5-1

The following WSHS wrestlers also had matches in the tournament:

182 and 195 lb. – Morgan Hale went 1-2

220 lb. results – Joshua Mancia went 3-0


Naytavia Lipscomb scored 34 points and Jewell Dixon 23 Friday as Potomac’s girls basketball team beat visiting Mountain View 74-60.

A freshman forward, Lipscomb recorded 23 points in the first half. She had 13 of the Panthers 22 first-quarter points as they jumped out to a 13-point lead. Potomac is ow 3-8.

After training at the end of the first quarter (17-7) and at halftime (24-16), visiting Patriot used a 19-7 third-quarter surge to beat Marshall Friday 54-48 and remain unbeaten at 8-0.

Hagen Vandiver led the Pioneers with 20 points and Devon Parrish had 12.
