Dominic Benson

Dominic Benson (Woodbridge, 2016) signed Wednesday with Miami of Ohio. Benson also had offers from Idaho, UMass and Buffalo.

Benson began his college football career as a preferred walk-on at Virginia Tech. The wide receiver redshirted for the 2016-17 season.

Benson then transferred to Ventura, a junior college in California. He was an honorable mention all-Northern Conference selection in 2018 after helping lead the Pirates to an 8-3 record.

In six games, Benson caught nine passes for 70 yards and four touchdowns.

COLLEGE COACHES COMING TO COLGAN

Colgan High School will host a football recruiting showcase Wednesday, May 8 from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. for rising seniors.

Players must be member of a Prince William County high school football team to participate and they have to sign up through their head coach. There is no cost to participate in the event.

At the showcase, the players will go through four different agility drills so the coaches can assess their overall athleticism.

After those four drills, the coaches will put the players through a series of position-specific drills to evaluate them.

Twenty-nine colleges from Division I, II and III will be represented: JMU, Towson, Alderson Broaddus, Columbia, Dartmouth, Duquesne, Fairmont St, Morgan State, New Hampshire, Sacred Heart, Shepherd, Stony Brook, VMI, Bridgewater, Christopher Newport, Dickinson, Ferrum, Franklin and Marshall, Frostburg, Georgetown, Gettysburg, Lehigh, Randolph Macon, Shenandoah, St. Vincent, Stevenson and Virginia Union.
