Woodbridge High School has hired Gary Wortham as its new head football coach.
Wortham will come over from nearby Freedom High School, where he has served as the head football coach for five years.
Wortham replaces Karibi DeDe, who stepped down after two seasons.
Wortham led Freedom to the school's first-ever playoff appearance in 2013. The Eagles also returned to the postseason in 2014, losing in the 5A North Region first round.
In five seasons under Wortham, Freedom went 10-42, including a 3-8 mark in 2014.
Wortham has been an assistant twice at Woodbridge.
"He knows Woodbridge and our kids," Woodbridge activities director George Washington said. "He's a disciplinarian and that's what we need."
